It was a day full of different activities.
We decided on friday that we will leave at 7 in the morning today for weekend shopping. We left at 6:30 in the evening. :-)
It doesn't mean that we relaxed the whole day. First it was grinding time. We need to make dosai tomorrow. It being the first time in "south indian" grinder (the one with stones), it was quite a project that we unknowingly undertook. It took lots of energy and time.
In the middle of cleaning and dusting, my wife told my son (who is four and a half) to take out the clothes from washing machine. He took half of them in the basket, dropped few of them and ran away on his scooter.
I was busy grinding. Heard a shriek from my wife. I looked at her and then looked at the place where she was looking. Oops, it was a dead lizard below a piece of cloth that my son dropped. Then she asked me to pick up and throw. I gave a puzzled look first at my wife then at the lizard. I did not have any intention to do that. I was ready to throw the clothes along with it.
In the meantime, seeing his parents planning another project, my son came and got updates from us. He gave a look at the lizard and said its not lizard and moved towards it. I asked him to stop. He stopped and again reassured me that its not. Before I could say anything he picked it up by its tail and said, "Look. it's not". He was showing it to us as a prized possession. And then he declared that it was given to him by his friend in school.
Damn China! Why do they have to make it so real?
After finishing multiple rounds of grinding, I gave one fine look at the batter and decided thats it and moved on clean up our birds' cages. We have four birds; two canaries and two parakeets. Two cages ofcourse.
Cleaning of canaries' cage was uneventful. While I was about to finish parakeets' cage, my wife came and before I could say anything, she lifted it. I had removed the base for cleaning. And one of the birds came out and started flying in the house. So, we undertook another project to catch it.
We closed all the doors and windows. My wife and I took a duppatta each and started following it. It was not a simple thing. We almost decided to let her go when my son mentioned that its his favourite. We started again with zeal. The bird was scared too. After a while, it stopped flying and wanted us to catch it. We were scared to touch it, as it looked so delicate. This made me leave it in one of the close encounters.
My son was watching us closely. Suddenly he asked if he could take a chewing gum. It gave us a feeling that we are giving him an interesting bird show. Eventually we caught it and put it back to cage. It was safe and sound. We relaxed a bit.
My son was happy. But I know we need to release them some day and buy some more. Different ones. I hope he would understand.
Then it was shower time. Nap time. Movie time. Lazy time. Weekend shopping time.
Now I am planning to watch a movie and surrender myself to sleep.
